Bondi will be bursting with colour on July 12 as canvases line the seafront for the annual Art On The Streets event.
Art on the Streets provides the opportunity for emerging artists to exhibit their work outdoors in Bondi’s Roscoe Street Mall. Visitors will have the chance to pick up original pieces from over 30 artists and photographers for as little as $30.
The event was set up as a joint initiative by the Bondi Chamber of Commerce and Waverley Council five years ago to encourage people to come to Bondi during the winter months. With 22,000 people having confirmed their intention to attend on the event’s Facebook page, it seems that the initiative is set to be a success!
Visitors will be encouraged to contribute their own artistry to the day by filling the surrounding streets with chalk art. The vibe will be funky and soulful with live music provided by BYO Social Club, a collective of local musicians who bring together sounds from an eclectic mix of genres.
Confirmed artists include Bondi resident Rosie Apps, whose humorous sketches of Bondi are popular with locals and visitors, Stuart Sale, a Sydney based mixed media artist originally from the UK and visual wordsmiths The Doodle Society.
“We’re very, very excited to be involved in Art On The Streets for the first time this year,” says Annie Pryor from The Doodle Society. “We love the idea of being able to showcase our work out in the open air, as it is very much inspired by the natural world. We invite all the winter wanderers to get into the spirit and come and say hi.”
Let’s hope the sun shines on us during this fantastic art celebration! There are plenty of coffee shops nearby on Hall Street and Glenayr Avenue, so you can grab a coffee, hot chocolate or chai to take around with you while you’re browsing.
Head to the Art On The Streets Facebook page for updates.
